International travel spotlight: Tracey Edwards

Event Travel Management (ETM) Global Strategic Lead and General Manager ETM ANZ, Tracey Edwards, recently returned from a multi-leg international expedition to visit colleagues and friends in the Northern Hemisphere! Tracey shares her joy for travel and advice to others below:

 

What was different about your travel post-COVID?

Travelling internationally for the first time since the pandemic started was inarguably different to my previous experiences, mostly because of the additional documents and processes that are now required. I had to show proof of vaccination status and a negative PCR test prior to departure, though I am glad to hear this requirement has since been dropped for travel to the United States. All in all, everyone was still friendly and happy to be travelling.

 

What part of your travel experience felt the most “normal”?

I was prepared for long delays at airports, especially when collecting luggage after my flights. Surprisingly, this was one of the most normal parts of the trip, with my luggage already available to be collected from the carousels on arrival or not long afterwards.

 

Was there anything that was simple or easier about your experience than you expected?

I began my journey feeling very aware of the nuances of post-COVID travel, but by the end of it I had already found my rhythm with this new reality. The processes and requirements were all easy to navigate, and I made sure I allowed myself plenty of time at the airport to check-in and make my way through security.

What guidance, tools, or apps were helpful during your travel experience?

The Sherpa tool was a great resource for learning what to expect at different locations. I was able to check for Government requirements at each destination and kept up to date with the latest travel news via CTM social media channels.

 

What travel or cultural experience left the biggest impression?

I was most impressed by the patience of everyone travelling and the friendliness of all airport staff at check-in, in the lounges and when organising car hire. Despite the changing rules and regulations, the industry professionals were all very informed and able to assist with any queries.

 

What did you realise you missed most about travelling?

I missed experiencing the different cultures, hearing different languages and all the unique accents in London. Being able to reunite with colleagues and family around the world was really special after the two years we’ve had.

What message would you want to ensure your fellow travellers take away from your experience as travel opens again?

Be prepared, research the requirements for your specific travel plans and be patient.  If I thought something was taking a little longer than it may have before, I reminded myself the supply chain is still returning. Enjoy the experience!  For me, it was a privilege to travel, engage with colleagues face-to-face and celebrate all we had achieved over the last two years together.
