Introducing Simone Purnell, one of ETM’s event and travel experts

Simone Purnell

Introducing Simone Purnell, one of Event Travel Management’s (ETM’s) experienced and passionate event and travel experts. Read on to get to know Simone as she shares her experience in the industry, her career highlights and how she can help you with your next trip or event.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your experience in meetings & events.

I have been working in meetings and events for over 12 years now. I have always worked on agency side and have had various roles during this time. I have a lot of experience in planning and working on large events both locally and internationally ranging from conferences, product launches and VIP incentive trips. My passion is definitely incentives, I have really enjoyed hosting some very interesting people all over the world.

What does your day-to-day look like with ETM?

We are a growing team in Melbourne so I start my day with a team catch up and planning session. Following this, I usually have a day full of client meetings, reviewing proposals and budgets and general admin to keep the team going.

What has been your biggest learning during your time in the industry?

The past few years have definitely been hard for our industry. I have learnt that people really do love to meet in person and that events are immensely powerful tools to bring people together, motivate and engage. We are all very hopeful things will go back to how they were allowing more in person events in 2022 and beyond.

Do you have a favourite career highlight so far?

So many highlights! But by far my favourite was taking a group to the Ice hotel in Kiruna, Sweeden. The hotel is an amazing venue hand-sculpted out of massive ice blocks from the nearby Torne River. It was certainly a once in a lifetime experience!

What do you consider the biggest benefit of utilising a professional events agency?

We are working with a range of clients and suppliers on a daily basis so we are always able to deliver new and exciting options at competitive prices.

Over the next 12 months, what are you most looking forward to career-wise?

I am looking forward to seeing the industry make a comeback and our clients having the confidence to book events and trips as travel restrictions ease. I am also looking forward to reconnecting with old friends and colleagues within the industry and watching ETM grow as a company.

Any tips or advice for those looking to get back to face-to-face events in 2022?

Make sure you have a COVID safe plan in place to ensure the comfort of your delegates and attendees.
