Hotel Indigo Melbourne on Flinders to open mid year

IHG Hotels & Resorts will open Hotel Indigo Melbourne on Flinders in mid-2023, following the completion of an extensive $20 million transformation, which will include a street-side Spanish tapas restaurant and bar along with meeting facilities for up to 200 people.

 

Accor Pacific partners with Ecotourism Australia 

Accor has entered into a strategic partnership with Ecotourism Australia to certify all its properties across Australia and the Pacific as Sustainable Tourism certified businesses. The evaluation process undertaken by Ecotourism Australia incorporates four pillars of sustainability, namely sustainable management, environmental impact, cultural impact, and socio-economic impact. Sustainability has become a significant priority for Accor, with the brand removing 43% single use plastic items from guest facing areas in over 80% of hotels throughout 2022 and committing to further the removal single use plastics throughout its properties in 2023.

 

Auckland’s Viaduct Events Centre officially reopen

Exciting news for the events industry in Auckland!  The Viaduct Events Centre has officially reopened its doors, adding a massive 6,000m2 of spectacular waterfront event space back into the city’s inventory.

 

Adina Apartment Hotel Pentridge Melbourne officially opens

TFE Hotels has officially opened its new 106-room apartment-style Adina Apartment Hotel Pentridge. Located in the historic Pentridge Prison precinct, this beautifully restored hotel offers a unique and unforgettable experience for guests. The precinct also features nine bespoke conferencing and events venues, collectively known as Chapter Place. Ritz-Carlton Melbourne now open!

The highly anticipated Ritz-Carlton Melbourne has officially opened its doors, marking Marriott International’s 1000th hotel in the Asia-Pacific region. The 257-room hotel features a spa, three restaurants, a cocktail bar and a unique sky lobby on level 80 where guests can take in sweeping views of the Melbourne city skyline. Event planners will also be spoilt for choice, with the Ritz-Carlton Melbourne’s event venues spanning 2500sqm across two levels, including a grand ballroom, with 7m-high ceilings that can seat up to 550 guests.

 

Blue Mountains property The Kyah reveals expanded event spaces

The Kyah, a property located in the Boutique Blue Mountains, has recently finished the second phase of its renovation project. It now features additional outdoor attractions for guests and an upgraded meeting and event space, that have been designed to provide guests with an authentic local experience. The meeting areas include specially designed breakout zones and flexible meeting spaces that accommodate up to 120 individuals standing and are equipped with cutting-edge AV event technology. The property’s signature restaurant and bar, Blaq, can be reserved for private dinners, cocktail parties, and full-venue functions. It can seat up to 120 guests and hold up to 200 standing guests.

 

Brisbane’s Queen’s Wharf Sky Deck releases a preview of the new venue

The Sky Deck at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane has released a preview of what’s in store for the highly anticipated event venue, and it’s worth the wait! The 250m long open-air rooftop venue will offer a signature restaurant, all-day casual dining and a hero bar, sky-high events space and a glass floor viewing platform. The Sky Deck will be open day and night, offering space for up to 1,500 patrons. View the preview here.

 

Le Méridien returns to Australia with the opening of its new Melbourne property

Le Méridien Melbourne has recently opened, signifying the brand’s return to Australia. The hotel boasts 235 guest rooms, including 14 spacious suites, as well as a rooftop pool and terrace. Additionally, the property features 420sqm of conference space. Located on a site originally built in the 1850s, the hotel has retained the original Art Deco facade. The hotel’s most spacious meeting area measures 182sqm and can be partitioned into two separate rooms. Additionally, there is a designated meetings floor with four more rooms and three private working booths available.

 

Hyatt Regency Sydney launches new event space: The Upper Deck

Hyatt Regency Sydney has officially unveiled its new events space – The Upper Deck! With a stunning 352sqm space that can accommodate up to 200 guests and a 40sqm alfresco terrace offering breathtaking views of Darling Harbour, this unique venue is sure to leave a lasting impression.

 

Takina convention centre officially opening on 31 May

Get ready New Zealand; the next generation of convention and exhibition centres is almost here and ready to welcome delegates! Takina, Wellington’s new state-of-the-art convention centre, will officially open on 31 May and will host the Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA)’s MEETINGS 2023 as one of its first events.

 

Manly Pacific completes its transformation

Manly Pacific – MGallery has completed its two-year refurbishment, unveiling a sophisticated transformation. Bathed in natural light and decorated in a contemporary coastal style, the hotel’s 213 rooms and suites provide guests with a personal oasis. The hotel also offers nine dynamic function spaces that accommodate up to 550 guests.

 

New Isle of Wight hotel planned for Phillip Island

A planning application has been lodged with Bass Coast Shire Council for a new hotel on Phillip Island. The development would see the former pub, the Isle of Wight reinstated and transformed into a 160-room hotel that include an upmarket restaurant, large-scale event space, a state-of-the-art wellness centre and a laneway-style retail precinct. If successful, the new hotel will provide event planners with a fantastic new option just 90 minutes from Melbourne.

Hosted buyer interest for MEETINGS is at an all-time high

With MEETINGS, New Zealand’s premier business events trade show, just around the corner in June, 224 exhibition stands have been secured! There is also an an unprecedented level of interest from hosted buyers, with 230 business event organisers from all over the globe confirmed. The event is scheduled for June 21 and 22 and will be held at Takina, Wellington’s new state-of-the-art convention centre.

 

Australian Government pledges $2M towards business events research

In March, the  Australian Federal Government confirmed a $2 million allocation to measure the impact and benefit of business events! The project will roll out in two phases, with Business Events Council of Australia working closely with the Government to gather data from venues, organisers, delegates, and exhibitors across the country.

 

Air New Zealand to resume seasonal Sunshine Coast flights

Air New Zealand will resume flights between  Auckland and the Sunshine Coast from 25 June. Flights are currently seasonal, scheduled to operate three times a week from June until mid-October, allowing business events planners to take advantage of the Sunshine Coast’s many venue and incentive offerings throughout this peak events period.
